Social media marketing (SMM) is using a range of social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Pinterest and SnapChat to promote a product or a service. These social media channels enable brands to connect with their audience to help build their brand, increase leads and sales whilst driving traffic to their website.
This is a key component when it comes to your social media strategy and sometimes it’s tricky to know where to start. Firstly think about your target audience, where are they likely to be? Each platform has its own USP’s and demographics so it’s worth taking a look to see where is best to reach your target audience.
Remember quality over quantity!
Think about your resources, it’s better to be doing a couple of social media channels well then to spread yourself too thinly. TikTok creation will take a lot of time and is very different to Linkedin content for example.
It is important to mix up the content types on your social media pages to keep content fresh and engaging. Try switching it up between videos/ reels, images, blogs, thought leadership pieces and company updates. Social media content should be of a high quality which gives value to your customers (it’s not just about providing a ‘sale’ or spam like content)!
Paid Social Media is when you pay for social ads to be displayed on a specific platform, for example: Facebook. This will drive traffic to your website or the desired goal of your campaign. It is used to target new customers or re-engage with potential customers. Organic social media is producing and displaying high quality content for free on your social media channels for your followers to enjoy. Paid and organic content both have valuable parts to play in your social media strategy and can be explained further by our social media agency.
It is recommended to be posting between 2-5 times per week on your social media to keep placements high amongst the algorithms. Don’t be scared if all your posts don’t keep multiple likes if the quality is there – 1 like and 1 new lead can be better than 100 likes with no leads.
This is where it’s time to identify your KPI’s! If your goal is to increase brand awareness then traffic volume metrics such as reach, impressions and website traffic will be your KPI’s. If your goal is to generate leads then you can benchmark the conversion cost, cost per lead and cost per purchase value.
Don’t forget to look at the wider picture and consider how social media marketing fits into your strategy as a whole, including brand uplift, traffic and assisted conversions!
