To round off the year, we’re taking a look at a few stand-out marketing campaigns that we enjoyed over the month of December. And guess what? None of them are Christmas related! You’ll have to skip back to November’s round-up for that.
In the run-up to December 12th’s general election, advertising media and music agency, Truant, were on a mission to encourage young people to use their votes to #CancelTheHaters. Even though voter registration has increased by 28% since 2017’s election, not all newly registered voters make it to the ballot box on Election Day. The purpose of this film was to remind young people to get down to the polling stations and make their voices heard.
The film features celebrities from all walks of life, encouraging young voters to use their votes to counter the hateful votes that could come from people who dismiss today’s youth as ‘moaning snowflake insta-junkies’. Charming. The film was pushed out across multiple influencer’s social channels and took on a bright, energetic and engaging vibe to banish that dark and depressing undertone people often feel when talking about politics.
Something else for the younger generation out there – Gen-Z to be specific. They are the generation of Instagram and Tiktok, dominating the platforms with their live and fast-paced video content. This is what Samsung’s new global campaign ‘AWESOME is for Everyone’ is all about.
The 48-second film engages this demographic on their own terms; with irony and irreverent fun. The stars of the show is the phones edge-to-edge infinity screen with a pin-hole camera, a super-steady mode for smooth video capture and a super long battery life. The perfect pocket companion for Gen-Z and their snappy on-the-go video content.
Zoopla, the UK’s most comprehensive property destination, launched their latest campaign on Boxing Day this month, targeting house hunters across TV, YouTube, social media and more. The campaign features two 30-second videos that show people enjoying their new homes in different ways.
And the timing with this one is spot on. The thinking is that spending time with family and friends over the festive period often acts as the spark for people thinking about their next move on the housing ladder. The films play on the emotional value of moving home and how this is just as important as the rational side.
